The velocipede is on display in the Annex Building at the Nevada State Railroad Museum. Text of sign about the velocipede:
Sheffield No. 2 Velocipede
George Sheffield’s Sheffield Velocipede Car Company commenced making these light weight, three-wheeled vehicles at Three Rivers, Michigan about 1877. They were widely used by railroad track inspectors and switch and signal maintainers.
A No. 2 Sheffield, such as this, had provision for a passenger behind the operator.
This particular example is a reconstruction utilizing the steel and iron parts from a burned velocipede carcass found along the Western Pacific Railroad right-of-way between Reno and Reno Junction. The restoration was performed by Robert Recks, who donated it to the Nevada Sate Railroad Museum in 2006.
