Hard as it is to believe now, when hundreds of thousands of geese nest or migrate through Manitoba every year, in the mid 1970s, the Canada Goose was an endangered species. When the Refuge was established only 12 geese nested here. Now as many as 10,000 geese nest in the Refuge, producing as many as 5,000 goslings annually. The Refuge also hosts large breeding populations of many other types of birds.
There are no trails but there are two access roads. Many species of birds may be easily observed in the marsh beside the roads.
The coordinates given are for the southern road entrance to the marsh.
