MW0788 - USC&GS 'AVILA' Station Mark - Lassen County, CA - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

I recovered this U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey station mark from 1968 in good condition. The nearby reference mark's disk was found missing but the stem was found projecting on top of the boulder. This disk series is also listed on a topography map as 'AVILA'. The NGS datasheet description and NGS posted coordinates are adequate for station recovery.

DESCRIBED BY CA DIV OF HIGHWAYS 1968 THE STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 2.75 MILES NW OF THE WILLOW CREEK RANGER STATION APPROXIMATELY IN THE NW CORNER OF THE SE 1/4 OF SECTION 18, T 37 N R 10 E. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE WILLOW CREEK RANGER STATION (P.M. 52.48) GO NW ON HIGHWAY FOR 3.1 MILES, OR 0.6 MILE SE ON HIGHWAY FROM MODOC NATIONAL FOREST BOUNDARY. STATION IS 37.4 FEET SW OF CENTER LINE HIGHWAY AND 12 FEET NE OF RIGHT OF WAY FENCE. THE STATION IS A STANDARD DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS DISK STAMPED USC AND GS AVILA 1968 AND SET IN A 3-FOOT BY 2-FOOT ROCK OUTCROP 12 INCHES ABOVE THE GROUND AND MARKED BY A METAL POST WITH SURVEY MONUMENT SIGN 3.3 FEET WEST. REFERENCE MARK IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN A 2-FOOT BY 1-FOOT ROCK OUTCROP 2.5 FEET EAST OF FENCE AND STAMPED USC AND GS AVILA 1 1968.
