MW0273 - USC&GS 'V 506' BM - Modoc County, CA - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

I recovered this U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey benchmark from 1954 in good condition. This disk is also listed on a topography map as 'BM 4140'. The NGS datasheet description is adequate for station recovery although the wooden bridge over the canal is gone and has been replaced by an elevated dirt road. This road next to this disk was the former County Road 93 and has been realigned to the south. This dirt road may now be on private property. The wooden witness post is gone. My more accurate coordinates will place you very close to this mark.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1954 2.1 MI NW FROM LOOKOUT. 2.1 MILES NORTHWEST ALONG A GRAVELED ROAD FROM THE POST OFFICE AT LOOKOUT, 0.1 MILE WEST OF A WOODEN BRIDGE OVER A CANAL, 0.1 MILE NORTH OF THE JUNCTION OF A ROAD LEADING SOUTH TO LITTLE HOT SPRING, ON THE OUTSIDE OF A SHARP CURVE, 74 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE ROAD, 8 1/2 FEET SOUTH OF A FENCE CORNER, 2.1 FEET EAST OF A FENCE, 2.5 FEET NORTH OF A WITNESS POST, ABOUT 2 FEET HIGHER THAN THE ROAD, AND SET IN THE TOP OF A CONCRETE POST PROJECTING 0.4 FOOT ABOVE THE GROUND.
