Woodlawn Cemetery, originally known as Englewood Cemetery was established in 1888 by the Southern Methodist Church, with burials first recorded in 1889. Burials ceased there in 1968 until dedicated local citizens revitalized the cemetery and is now open for new burials. There are currently 241 known interments. There are many unmarked grave sites that are being located and markers are being provided. This continues to be an ongoing process, but hopes are to identify all those individuals interred here.
A butterfly garden, new sidewalks, a wrought iron gate and fencing were installed at the Eighth Avenue entrance, a central patio area and a columbarium were also part of this revitalization project.
