At the side of the fire hall, at the rear, stands one of the department's old war horses, a 1984 Ford C800 cabover with a Hub pumper conversion. The firefighters must have hated to retire this one as it has a centre console. We've talked to firefighters who have worked with centre console engines and they generally love them because they afford an all around view, much better than the view from a side console unit.

The power plant in this unit is a 429 Commerical Engine, more closely related to the 460 light truck engine than the 429 CJ (Cobra Jet, for the uninitiated) most of us are familiar with. Until I saw the badge on this engine I didn't know there was a 429 truck engine. Like the CJ, though, it has a four barrel carburetor, probably a Holley.

This engine has current license plates on it, indicating to us that it may still be a reserve engine - OR - maybe they use it as a parade unit. Most all of the unit is in pretty good condition as yet.
