District Nine encompasses the northern part of Spokane County, from Spokane north to the county line and from the west county line to the east county line.
Station 92 is located in Mead, a town straddling Market Avenue on the northern outskirts of Spokane. The first station in Spokane County Fire District Nine, Station 91, opened in 1972, the most recent, Station 99, in 1999. This, the second station in the fire district, Station 92, opened in 1994. It, like all the stations in the district, is manned by a mix of career firefighters and volunteer firefighters. Volunteers can be either resident volunteers, who live at their assigned station and receive a monthly stipend, or non resident volunteers, much like the volunteers of most other departments.
Not only a fire station, Station 92 is the administration and training centre for Fire District Nine, with administration offices adjoining the station and a large paved training area in the rear of the station.
Though Spokane County Fire District Nine has a website, it offers no information on the size of the force nor on the apparatus assigned to it.
