About 160 metres north to south and 150 metres east to west, Dorothy Lake is quite small in comparison to its southern neighbour. Filling a small depression just north of Lake Windermere, Dorothy Lake has been incorporated into Kinsmen Park, with a walking trail part way around its perimeter and a fairly substantial fountain having been created near its centre. Its only outlet appears to be overflow down the slope and into Lake Windermere. The lake is stocked with rainbow trout annually by the
Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, 500 being released into the lake in each of the last nine years.
The lake is home to a protected species, the painted turtle, an endangered species in the area. Recently goldfish have been discovered in the lake. Their presence is not a good thing, as they are quite invasive and compete with both native fish and the painted turtle for food, as well as stirring up the lake bottom, making the water turbid.
