Invermere, being a tourist town, has several parks, the major one on Lake Windermere (with the beach), but this is the only large athletic park. Here one may spend an entire day attempting to achieve their targeted fitness level. Most major sports and activities can be partaken of in this park.

One of the larger (and doubtless more expensive) facilities in the park is the all concrete Mount Nelson Skatepark. This is, so far, the only two piece skatepark we've visited. While the main section of the skatepark contains all the usual obstacles and challenges, a separate section contains a large three part bowl. Altogether, a pretty nice facility, in great condition.

While there were no skateboarders out when we visited, there were a few youngsters having a blast running up and down the bowl, then trying to figure out how to get back out.

Two years in the making, the park was officially opened in 2005. It was a cooperative project of Rocky Mountain School District No. 6, the Rotary Club of Invermere and the District of Invermere. In total, the park occupies about two city blocks.
