Also as a memorial the concrete wall of a dam is standing here but full of debris and clay because of the landslide from the Monte Toc. Near the Sant'Antonio del Colomber chapel there is a memoral plaque and two more memorials made by the residents of new Longarone - one for the children victims and one for the adults.
In 1956 the building of the dam started, in its time it was the highest dam in the world. Early the building has started there were many problems with smaller landslides, once a small tsunami wave killed one workman. But the dam was finished and filled with water. On 9th October 1963 in 22:39 the catastrophic landslide happened, more than 270 milions m³ rapidly fall down to the dam and it has made more than 200 m high tsunami wave which completely destroyed the nearby standing small town Longarone and some other villages... About 2000 people were killed...
