The island of Oahu's North Shore is home to some of the world’s finest surfing beaches and bays. During the winter months (November through March), the swells at world-famous spots such as Waimea Bay, Banzai Pipeline, and Sunset Beach reach 30 feet or more:that’s when professional surfers and fans descend onto this area.
Outside of those winter months, the swells are significantly smaller... but still pack quite a punch!
Sunset Point, located at the Northeast tip of Sunset Beach Park, is a perfect spot to watch the waves in action: the viewing angle is "from the side" instead of "facing the waves", so one can observe the swells slowly making their way onto the Sunset Beach and Banzai Pipeline shorelines (Waimea is just too far away, and behind a "curve" so out of sight from here).
Should you prefer to see the wave from "up front" and take a quick dip into the ocean, it's just a 5-minute stroll to Sunset Beach itself from this particular viewing spot.
