The Battle of Messkirch was fought on 4 and 5 May 1800 and resulted the victory of French army against the Austrians. At the church 'St. Martin' you can still find an origin cannon ball at its origin location attached to the church's wall.

The Battle of Messkirch was an important battle of the 'War of the Second Coalition' between the 'First French Republic' and the 'Habsburg Austria'. The french army won this battle.
The French commander was Jean Moreau and the Austrian commander was Paul Kray von Krajowa.

The coordinates of the waymark are listed at the chruch 'St. Martin' nearby to the Castle of Messkirch because there is an origin cannonball attached to the outer wall of the church which has been fired during the battle. It can be found at the North-Western corner.
