'Y Tair Pluen' translates to the 'The Three Feathers'. Located at Saint John Street in the Heart of Cardiff, South Wales.

The Venue:
"Tair Pluen was formerly part and parcel of the Owain Glyndwr next door but was hived off last year to become its own venue (although it’s still owned by the same people). It’s been modernised too and it seems to have taken a while for people to get used to it.

It’s open plan and features exposed brickwork, a patterned carpet and lots of Welsh rugby memorabilia. There are low tables, big mirrors and TV screens all over the place. The bar is straight ahead as you go in and there’s a more formal eating area at the front and an elevated space at the back. The name of the pub refers back to when the King of Bohemia suggested the Welsh army use three ostrich feathers as its ensign. An idea which, unbelievably, stuck. Y Tair Pluen is Welsh for The Three Feathers.

The People
Due to its location it attracts a lot of passing trade including shoppers on a Saturday. At other times it relies on a lunchtime trade, but it can be very, very quiet in the afternoons. It's best to describe the Tair Pluen and the Owain Glyndwr as a pub of two halves. Owain Glyndwr is much busier so if it all gets too much you can pop next door to the Tair Pluen and vice-versa.

The Food and Drink
On draught you’ve got Guinness, Celtic Gold, Strongbow and John Smith’s. The real ales change almost weekly and on our last visit they were pulling pints of Sharp’s Special, Sharp’s Doom Bar and Hyde’s Trojan Horse. There’s the usual selection in bottles and there are half a dozen bottles each of red and white wines. The food is traditional Welsh fare, such as cowl (Welsh stew), lamb’s liver and bacon, faggots and peas for £4.95. And to finish there’s a rhubarb and apple crumble for £2.95.

The Last Word
