[DE]Ausgemusterte „F-4F Phantom II“ (Kennung 38+14), aufgeständert seit 15. Oktober 2006 an der Kreuzung Isumser Straße/B210 nahe der Kaserne. Das Flugzeug flog zuvor im Taktisches Luftwaffengeschwader 71 „Richthofen“. Der Militärflughafen Wittmundhafen liegt zwischen Wittmund und Aurich.
Seit März 1963 ist das Jagdgeschwader 71 "Richthofen" mit der Stadt Wittmund eng verbunden. Anfang der 70er Jahre wurde die F-104G durch die F-4F "Phantom" ersetzt. Das Jagdgeschwader 71 "R" erfüllt Luftverteidigungsaufgaben im Rahmen der NATO und sichert mit seinen Flugzeugen rund um die Uhr den deutschen Luftraum ("Alarmrotte").

The aircraft flew earlier in the Tactical Luftwaffe 71 "Richthofen". The military airport "Fliegerhorst Wittmundhafen" is located between Wittmund and Aurich about 5 km away.
Since March 1963 the Jagdgeschwader 71 "Richthofen" is closely connected with the city of Wittmund. In the early 1970s the F-104G was replaced by the F-4F "Phantom". The Jagdgeschwader 71 "R" fulfills air defense tasks within the framework of NATO and ensures with its aircraft around the clock the German airspace (Quick Reaction Alert).
