Golden Municipal Cemetery was first opened to burials in 1894 when the Golden Pioneer Cemetery no longer had space for burials. The cemetery was originally a community effort and several church's cared for it but the cemetery today is under the ownership of the Town of Golden. The cemetery is in good condition and currently has 1,215 known interments.

There are some very interesting old headstones with some of the burial sites encased in concrete typical of most old cemeteries. It is believed this was done to be protected from grave robbers. The cemetery is about 5 acres and is surrounded by chain link fencing. Nestled amount tall pine trees it is restful and comforting.
