This is a contributing building in the State Street-Henry Street Historic District. It has Neoclassic and Art Deco elements. It is made of Indiana limestone and granite.

"Originally built as the U.S. Post Office and Courthouse and now the Federal Building and Courthouse, the building was completed as a federal Public Works Administration (PWA) project with Treasury Department funding in 1935."

There are also WPA funded murals in the building.

There is a new post office, but the building still serves as a courthouse and federal building.

The building achieved LEED in 2009 for an existing building, certified as 41/110.
