MW0295 - USC&GS 'F 505' BM - Modoc County, CA - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

I recovered this U.S. & Geodetic Survey benchmark from 1954 in good condition, including the original wooden witness post. This disk is also listed on a topography map as 'BM 4714'. The NGS datasheet description is adequate for station recovery although Hackamore and Scarface no longer exist (former railroad siding stations) and Happy Camp Guard Station is now a fire station. This benchmark now resides below the highway due to road regrading and elevation. My more accurate coordinates will place you very close to this mark.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1954 10 MI S FROM HACKAMORE. 2.2 MILES SOUTH ALONG A GRADED ROAD FROM THE WATER TOWER AT HACKAMORE, THENCE 1.6 MILES WEST ALONG STATE HIGHWAY 139, THENCE 6.2 MILES SOUTH ALONG LOOKOUT ROAD, AT THE INTERSECTION OF A ROAD LEADING EAST TO HAPPY CAMP GUARD STATION AND WEST TO SCARFACE, 1.0 MILE WEST OF HAPPY CAMP GUARD STATION, 82 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE EAST-WEST ROAD, 46 FEET EAST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE ROAD, 2.9 FEET WEST OF A WITNESS POST, ABOUT 1 FOOT HIGHER THAN THE ROADS, AND SET IN THE TOP OF A CONCRETE POST PROJECTING 0.4 FOOT ABOVE THE GROUND.
