< DE >  Markus Bittner, * 27. Jänner 1920 Wien, † 14. Juni 2009 Wien; Pädagoge, Politiker, Hofrat. Wurde während des Zweiten Weltkrieges zunächst zum Reichsarbeits- und später zum Wehrdienst eingezogen. Nach einer schweren Verletzung im Jahre 1943 wurde er aus der Wehrmacht entlassen. Studierte Lehramt (Deutsch und Geschichte) an der Universität Wien und war Lehrer an einer Wiener Mittelschule, Gymnasiallehrer, sowie Direktor des Bundesrealgymnasiums in Floridsdorf, später dann Lehrer für Zeitgeschichte und politische Bildung am Wiener Schottengymnasium.

Katholische Bildungsarbeit war dem Historiker, Pädagogen und Direktor des Gymnasiums Franklinstraße Auftrag und Verpflichtung.
Er engagierte sich in der Wiener Stadtpolitik (30 Jahre Abgeordneter der ÖVP), als Vizepräsident des Stadtschulrates, gründete Jugendherbergen und war u.a. auch Obmann des Jedleseer Meisterklubs "Admira".
Markus Bittner, geehrt als "Bürger von Wien", mahnte immer wieder:
"Löscht den Geist nicht aus!"

During the Second World War, he was first recruited to the Reichsarbeitswehr and later to the military service. After a serious injury in 1943, he was released from the armed forces. Studied teaching (German and History) at the University of Vienna and was a teacher at a Viennese middle school, high school teacher, as well as director of the Federal "Realgymnasium" in Floridsdorf, then later as teacher for contemporary history and political education at the Vienna "Schottengymnasium".

Catholic education work was commissioned by the historian, educator and director of the Franklin Street High School and Mission.
He was involved in the Viennese urban policy (30 years delegate of the ÖVP), as Vice-President of the "Stadtschulrat" (education authority in Austria), founded youth hostels and was among other things also chairman of the Jedlese master club "Admira".
Markus Bittner, honored as "citizen of Vienna", always warned:
"Do not extinguish the spirit!"
