The bell tower is a steel gantry with the bell rung by steel cables. It has a lightning rod & a small communication aerial as well. A brass plaque attached to the tower advises:

The bell in this tower was in use at the Wellington convict settlement from 1823 to 1832. After being used for the First Mission and the Wesley Church in 1904 it became the bell for the first fire station in Cameron Park. It was transferred to this site in 1924.

Australian Heritage listed below has the following information about the bell:

The first white settlement near the current townsite was a convict camp which was established in 1823. The convict settlement ceased to exist in 1832, by which time convict-built military barracks, log and weatherboard jail, commandant's residence and a brick office had all been constructed.

The buildings and land were then given to the Church Missionary Society and an Aboriginal mission was set up. A bell first used at the convict settlement and later at the mission is now housed in Wellington's fire station bell tower.
