Diamond H Scout Ranch

Escape to the Cookson Hills! Your trip to the Diamond H Scout Ranch will take you through woods and fields, across creeks and deer trails, past bandit caves and peaceful waterfalls. You will fall in love with the oak-maple forest, the massive limestone outcroppings, and the hidden hollows of the 6,500-acre ranch. This wild tract is located just east of Lake Tenkiller, 167 miles east of Oklahoma City, 79 miles from Tulsa and 53 miles west of Fort Smith.

Adjoining the property is the 15,000-acre Cookson Wildlife Management Area. Terrapin Creeks flows down to Tenkiller Ferry Lake, known as the clearest lake in Oklahoma with 13,000 acres of water and 130 miles of shoreline. The scenic Illinois River offers 70 miles of floating possibilities and 8 miles of cold-water trout fishing. The Cherokee Nation is head-quartered in Tahlequah and offers several cultural attractions including the Cherokee Heritage Center.

Top Shot

Boy Scouts and Venturers may participate in this fun contest held at Diamond H in February. This popular activity usually has over 700 participants. Shooting activities include shotgun, .22 rifle, black powder rifle, slingshot, tomahawks, throwing knives, and pellet rifles. Venturers may also participate in high-power rifle and pistol.

Spring Break High Adventure Treks

Boy Scouts and Venturers are invited to attend this high adventure week in the wilderness of the Cookson Hills. This camp is scheduled during Oklahoma's spring break in March. Scouts new to backpacking may participate in the Backbacking Basics Trek. Youth ages 14-20 may participate in the Kodiak Leaderhip Trek. The Spring Break staff also offers a High Adventure Trek, 50 miler canoeing and backpacking.

The Event @ Diamond H

The Event @ Diamond H is a challenging adventure where scout skills and teamwork are the only way to survive what awaits you.

The property is open for camping on weekends throughout the year except for major holidays, hunting season, and during council and district camps. There a few established campsites and 6,500 acres of backcountry camping possibilities. Reservations are required at least two weeks in advance and may be made up to eleven months in advance.
