This railway bridge is situated just over a mile north of the town of Stonehaven only yards from the North Sea coast, carrying the railway north to Aberdeen over the Den of Cowie, a ravine which is actually the end of the Highland Boundary Fault, which runs the width of Scotland from Helensburgh to Stonehaven.

The viaduct was opened in 1850 by the Aberdeen Railway and has been rebuilt since in 1880, and also recently.

It is of four spans in wrought iron and steel with plate girders.

Also known as the Skatie Shore Viaduct, after the nearby cliffs, it can be seen at close quarters from a pathway that winds underneath, serving the golf course at Stonehaven which the viaduct dominates at the course's northern edge.
