The castle of Osnabrueck was the residence of Osnabrueck's prince-bishop Ernst August I. von Braunschweig-Lüneburg and his spouse Sophie von der Pfalz. Since 1974 it registered office of the administration of the University of Osnabrueck. The building as well as the whole garden and the sculptures within and the Lyra monument are listed under preservation order.
Schlossgarten Open Air
Since 2015 there is an annual two-day open air festival in the garden of the castle. 2015 guests were Tonbandgerät, Gregor Meyle, Revolverheld, Seven and Die Fantastischen Vier. 2016 Cro (MTV Unplugged), Rea Garvey, Mark Forster, Max Giesinger & Band und Walking on Cars came to the open-air. 2017 Andreas Bourani, Silbermond and Beginner are expected.
There are no guided tours, but the garden is accessible without restrictions and free of charge. During working hours one can visit the main Part of the building since classes are given there.
