"Hobb’s Point is a limestone quay with granite copings built in the 1830s for the Irish packet trade. This proved short-lived, and it was later used as a fitting out quay for the Royal Dockyard, complete with shear-legs. The bollards on the quay are Swedish 30-pounder cannons, captured from a French warship during the Napoleonic Wars; it was common practice to use captured guns as bollards on Admiralty quays."
