At the Oligocene, around 30 Ma, the alpine activity is amplified in the axis of the chain. In response to these constraints, the regions peripheral to the Alps (peri-Alpine regions, including the Beaujolais region) are subject to considerable distortion. The earth's crust breaks and whole sections of crust collapse. In connection with this phenomenon, on the western edge of this ditch, the Beaujolais geological series swings to the east. Simultaneously, or almost simultaneously with the tilting, many faults are formed and accompany these movements.
It is at this point that the fault of the geological path of the Folkstones is formed, exposing the different layers:
201 Ma to 199 Ma: Hettangien
199 Ma to 190 Ma: Sinemurian
A l'Oligocène, vers 30 Ma, l'activité alpine s'amplifie dans l'axe de la chaîne. En réponse à ces contraintes, les régions périphériques aux Alpes (régions périalpines, dont la région beaujolaise) subissent à l'inverse une importante distension. La croûte terrestre se fracture et des pans entiers de croûte s'effondrent. En lien avec ce phénomène, sur le bord occidental de ce fossé, la série géologique beaujolaise bascule vers l'est. Simultanément, ou quasi simultanément au basculement, de nombreuses failles se forment et accompagnent ces mouvements.
C'est à ce moment là que se forme la faille du sentier géologique des Pierres Folles, mettant à jours les différentes couches:
201 Ma à 199 Ma : Hettangien
199 Ma à 190 Ma : Sinémurien
