Missing its top plate, a 1936 Texas Highway Department Marker for Taylor County stands on the north side of I-20B, just before it hooks back up with I-20 at the western edge of Abilene.

As of this posting (5/2017), the Texas Historical Commission Atlas has no text for this marker. Some miles away, at the Buffalo Gap Historic Village, is a monument with a plaque on the front that might corroborate the missing text, although it lacks any reference to the current county seat, Abilene:

Taylor County
Organized - July 3, 1878

Buffalo Gap
County Seat
Aug. 8, 1878 - Oct. 30, 1883

First Taylor County
Courthouse and Jail
Constructed - 1879

Of course, there is this later Texas Historical Marker as well. (visit link)
Marker Number: 5207

Marker Text:
[Top plate missing]
