Though its major purpose is for hitting, throwing and catching baseballs and softballs, given that it lies along the Columbia River with plenty of benches and tables facing the water, it is extensively used as a place for a stroll along the river or a family picnic.

There are a couple of other ball diamonds in the city, but the majority of them are right here, in Centennial Park. There are no less than ten separate ball diamonds in the park, with room left over for a running track encircling a full sized soccer field. The diamonds, known as Doug May Field, have been dedicated to Doug May, a sporting enthusiast who spent most of his life volunteering in one way or another in the sports arena.

In the middle of summer this must be a busy and noisy place with a bunch of ball games going simultaneously.

When we visited in late April they were just preparing the diamonds for the summer, with the first games to take place just days later. In 2016, the year previous, the Revelstoke Minor Ball season opened on April 26.

In 2011 proposals were forwarded to city council to built a skateboard park and a mountain bike pump track and jump ramps at the park at the park. There was no sign of either in 2016, so we can't say what has become of the proposals.
