In 1865 Xavier Lemere, a Metis from Montana came upon this lake while chasing buffalo. He was a follower of Louis Riél. Travelling with and fighting by his side.

While camping here, he discovered big thick whitefish in this lake. He moved his family to this point and built a sod house. Xavier and his wife had ten children Frances, Joe, John, Samuel, Peter, Edward, Alex Marry(Alary). Adeline (Adams), and Elizabeth (Trottier).

Their livelihood was netting whitefish, hunting, trapping and selling furs. They built boats for personal use and for renting to other fishermen.

The Lemere family will be remembered for their achievements and heroism. Peter fought overseas in WWI. During the lean years, they saved many people in the district by sharing with them their bountiful fish harvest. In bad weather, the Lemere family saved many people from drowing with their exceptional boat handling skills.

The last Lemere to leave this point was Alex, when he sold the land to form the Lac Pelletier Regional Park in 1965.

In posterity, we share this story and remember their dignity, pride, honour and glory.
