Saskatchewan History & Folklore Society

Gouverneur, a thriving community in Pioneer Days. Gradually diminished and disappeared. The station was situated about 455 meters East of the Cairn.

Named for Isaac Gouverneur Ogden Financial Vice-President of the CPR.

In 1912, James McMillan, pioneer, relinquished his pre-emption SW 1/4-Section 30-T9-R12-W3 in favour of the CPR to develop a village.

It had two blacksmith shops, cafe, pool hall, post office, United Church, a two room Classroom. (School District No. 4557). Community Hall, station livery stable, dray business. Two lumbar, tennis court, three general stores. Machinery store. Four Elevators. Section House and service station.

Erected 1989 by the Gouverneur Cairn Committee.
