Everett Baker
1893-1981
Everett Baker arrived from Minnesota in 1917, settling on a farm in our district in 1918. Baker helped established the Aneroid Co-op Association, being the first manager from 1924-1935. Baker worked for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool as a field man. He was also associated with the Sask. Grain Growers Association and the Sask. Poultry Pool. Everett & Ruth Baker remained members of our community until 1937. They also lived in North Battleford, Regina and Shaunavon.
Baker photographed the people, places and events from the 1940s to the early 1960s. This resulted in 11,000+ valuable Kodachrome slide depicting the social, natural and historic development of our province during that period. Baker was the first president of the newly formed Saskatchewan History & Folklore Society (1957). He was primarily responsible for marking the Wood Mountain-Fort Walsh NWMP trail. Baker helped plan the province's Golden Jubilee and assisted the Department of Natural Resources as a Historic Sites & Trails Committee member. Baker had a profound effect on our community and province. www.shfs.ca/images
