The statue of George Washington was the first equestrian statue of George Washington and the first statue installed in the Boston Public Garden. The 6' x 2' x 15' bronze statue rests on a 16' x 8' 15' granite base. The statue was created by Thomas Ball and installed in 1869.
Washington is depicted riding a horse wearing a tri-cornered hat and the dress uniform of a Revolutionary War general. He is holding the reins of the horse with his left hand and has his right arm extended outward. Each side of the base is inscribed: WASHINGTON
