Opened in 1906, the Esmond Mill produced high quality Jacquard blankets. By 1919 the mill employed 1000+ workers, one half of Smithfield workers. Manufacturing ended shortly after WWII. Today it is the corporate headquarters for Benny's a New England retailer.
