The stone is located just on the French side of the border with Italy at the side of the coast road at the border station. It is next to bridge Pont St. Ludovic that marks the actual border.

Since the Schengen treaty it is not necessary to stop at the border and show passports but police on both sides of the border may do random stops of traffic.

Menton is the nearest French town to the border whilst Ventigmilia is the nearest Italian town.

Menton is close to the border though and like me many people walk along the coast road to venture across the border and go to the nearby cafe on the Italian side.
