As described by the US Coast and Geodetic Survey ("CGS") back in 1969:
"4.5 MILES NORTHWEST [of Kahuku] ALONG STATE HIGHWAY 83 FROM THE KAHUKU PLANTATION COMPANY HEADQUARTERS AT KAHUKU, IN THE NORTH END OF THE WEST CONCRETE WING WALL OF A BRIDGE OVER KAWELA STREAM, 15.0 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE HIGHWAY, 1.2 FEET NORTH OF THE NORTH CONCRETE BANISTER OF THE BRIDGE, AND ABOUT LEVEL WITH THE HIGHWAY."
The CGS description is still quite accurate and should definitely assist future seekers in finding this benchmark -- alternatively, one can use the gallery images for any future attempt at actual recovery.
The station was recovered in very good condition. Likewise, the NGS' currently posted coordinates (N 21° 41.701 W 158° 0.585) are perfectly in line with my observations, as measured within 10' accuracy and 10+ reading averages. (FYI: the coordinates on www.geocaching.com are off and place the station in the middle of the road, but that's irrelevant at this point since the NGS database has accurate readings by now).
Below are some additional facts, per the NGS database (with some editing for length): (
