As described by the Coast and Geodetic Survey ("CGS") back in 1969:
"ALONG NAUPAKA STREET, IN THE TOP AND 3.9 FEET SOUTH OF THE NORTH END OF A CONCRETE RETAINING WALL WHICH IS AT THE EAST END OF A PARKING AREA, 51.5 FEET NORTH OF R.M. 2, AND ABOUT 1 1/2 FEET HIGHER THAN THE STREET"
The CGS description is pretty accurate and should definitely assist future seekers in finding this benchmark. There are actually 2 other benchmarks in the vicinity:
*** "TU0497 - LAIE POINT RM 2", located at the SOUTHERN end of the same concrete retaining wall, and already waymarked by someone else back in 2007: (

*** "TU0498 - LAIE POINT", the actual triangulation station disk, located more or less equidistant from the 2 RM's. It has not been waymarked as yet due to it being underneath a cover that couldn't be pried open... but the BM is definitely still there, see: (

The station was recovered in decent to decent to poor condition, due to weathering and salt conditions (as it is very close to the ocean and battering waves). The NGS' currently posted coordinates (N 21° 38.912 W 157° 54.864) are pretty much in line with my observations, i.e. within a respectable margin of error. (FYI, the coordinates on www.geocaching.com are way off but luckily the NGS Database has more accurate/updated information).
Below are some additional facts, per the NGS database (with some editing for length): (
