Hockey, baseball star
Not a particularly big man in stature, Patsy Guzzo was a man with a big heart. In his youth, he excelled on the mound and at the plate for a dozen baseball and softball seasons in the '30s and '40s. He was a member of one Ontario and three Hull title teams. His on-ice skills were nonetheless notable. He played on two intermediate interscholastic title teams, three Allan Cup Eastern Canadian finalists and reached the pinnacle of his hockey career as a member of the 1948 Olympic RCAF Flyers world title teams. During a 12-year RCAF service stint he won numerous hockey MVP awards. He worked several years in the county court office and played an active role in local oldtimers hockey circles. Elected to both the Canadian Forces and Ottawa Sports Halls of Fame, Guzzo died Saturday at age 78. He is survived by his wife Marina (Mary) and children Patrick, Barry, Donnie and Mary (Mrs. Lech Lubanski).
The above text was published by "The Ottawa Citizen" newspaper, 18 January 1993, page C5. Patrick Joseph Guzzo was buried in the Notre-Dame Cemetery, section A, plot 31. Guzzo's teammate Irv Taylor (1919-1991) was also buried in Notre-Dame but I have not yet photographed Taylor's memorial.

According to the registers for the parish of St-Antoine-de-Padoue, Patrick Guzzo was born in Ottawa, 14 October 1914. Patrick Guzzo, son of Guiseppe Guzzo and Catarina Maresco, married Marina di Bartolo, 14 October 1941.
