Die Kapelle steht auf einer Verkehrsinsel zwischen den Fahrspuren und ist das Wahrzeichen Rhöndorfs.
Der Bau begann am 2. Mai 1714. So ist es auch über dem Eingang festgehalten:
"AO 1714 DEN Z TAG MAY HABEN WIR RHOENDORFER NACHBAREN DIESE KAPELLE ANGEFANGEN ZV BAWEN IN NAHMEN DER ALLERHEILIGSTEN IUNGFRAWEN MARIA REIN VNDT WERDEN ALLEN DEREN GVTHTAETER DIESER KAPELLEN IM GEBET ALLE ABENTS EINGEDENK SEIN! BAVMEN I.P. VNDT G.R.K."
1935 erfolgte eine umfassende Sanierung des Gebäudes. Die Marienkapelle wird vereinzelt für Gottesdienste genutzt.
Sie ist Teil der Liste der Baudenkmäler in Bad Honnef.

The chapel is located in the middle of a street between the lanes and is the landmark of Rhöndorf. The construction began on the 2nd of May, 1714. Thus it is also held on about the entrance:

In 1935 a comprehensive renovation of the building occurred. The chapel is used now and then for services.
It is a part of the list of the historic architectural monuments of Bad Honnef.
