Lowell Manufacturing made coarse cotton cloth and hand woven carpets initially. The first powered looms for producing carpets were introduced in 1839. In 1899 the Lowell Manufacturing Company was purchased by Bigelow Company. In 1914 Bigelow moved its operations to Thompsonville Connecticut and the buildings were leased to U.S. Cartridge Company until 1920. The various buildings were sold off at this time.
