Austere Baroque powder magazine (prachárna), built as the first from four buildings in Crownwork Fort (Korunní pevustka) in 1758, is the only preserved from four powder magazines originally located in bastions of large Olomouc Fortress.
Powder magazine, build in purely military style, was set up to meet the maximum possible security requirements for stowage of explosives. It served very well for its purpose, so it has not been never modified. For better guarding was build also a fencing wall surrounding the magazine.
Powder magazine is a two-storeyed three-nave hall structure covered with a saddle roof. Its three naves are formed by a series of two rows of beam pillars and wall-pillars. The floorboard flooring is divided by grille ventilation vents.
Powder magazine, completely reconstructed in 2012, houses nowadays a small museum devoted to history of Olomouc Fortress.
