Colorful, for Czech lands in unusual Byzantine-Russian-style designed orthodox Church of St. Gorazd (pravoslavný chrám Sv. Gorazda) in Olomouc, is the cathedral church of the Olomouc-Brno Eparchy (diocese of the Orthodox church of Czech lands and Slovakia).
The cornerstone of the church, work of architect and archimandrit Vsevolod (Andrej) Kolomacký, was laid on June 13, 1937 by bishop Gorazd. Church, devoted to early medieval Great-Moravian bishop St. Gorazd (ca 840-900), was consecrated on May 29, 1939. Closed by Nazis during WWII, it became a cathedral of newly estabilished Olomouc-Brno Eparchy (Eparchie olomoucko-brnenská) in 1950. For Central Europe unusual piece of architecture was reconstructed after WWII and also in 1985-1987. In 1987 the church took place for canonization of Prague orthodox bishop St. Gorazd II (Matej Pavlík), who was executed by the Nazis in 1942 for helping the paratroopers who carried out the assassination of SS-Obergruppenführer and Reichsprotector Reinhard Heydrich.
