The limestone walled Victorian Georgian and Victorian Regency style buildings were erected between 1852 and 1896, The buildings were used by the State government as a centre for customs operations between 1879 and 1908, Since 1979 the buildings have housed the Maritime Museum of Western Australia and is the location of the Batavia and other Dutch shipwreck exhibitions.
