This is the lock down the Minworth flight of 3 locks, known as Minworh lock . It is lock number 2 on the Birmingham & Fazeley canal.
The Minworth flight covers just one mile at Minworth which is at the north eastern outskirts of Birmingham. The locks are all single width, narrow beam locks of approximately 7’ 6” width. The flight has a total rise of 16’ 8”.
The canal runs 20 ½ miles from the centre of Birmingham in a north, north west direction to Whittington through 38 locks and was opened in 1789. At Whittington, the Coventry canal company took over as the previous company went bust and they continued the navigation up to Fradley junction where it meets the Trent & Mersey canal.

The Birmingham & Fazeley canal links the BCN (Birmingham Canal Navigations) and the Worcester & Birmingham canal in the centre of Birmingham to the Coventry canal (northbound) at Whittington. On the way it has junctions with the Digbeth Branch at Aston junction, the Grand Union and Tame Valley canals at Salford Junction and the Coventry canal (southeast bound) at Fazeley junction.
