The BLM’s Grimes Point Archaeological Area is located off U.S. Hwy. 50 about 10 miles southeast of Fallon, Nevada. The Hidden Cave trailhead is located about 1 mile east of Hwy. 20. There is a parking area and restrooms at the trailhead. There are 14 interpretive signs along the 1-mile loop trail which interpret a variety of subjects including three three caves.
The best known cave in the area is Hidden Cave which has been excavated multiple times. The excavations found thousand of artifacts which show that the cave was used as a storage site. After the last major excavation in the late 1970s the cave was set up as a site to interpret painstaking work which is vital to cataloging such a rich and remarkable archaeologic site. The cave is opened to the public for guide tours on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. (
