The Black Ash Nature Reserve is accessed by taking the turn-off to the Beaumont Bush Fire Brigade, which is well sign posted.

The nature reserve's sign though has succumbed to rot with the top portion lying on the ground with only the word "ASH" showing but the lower portion clearly stating it is a Nature Reserve. The Australian Heritage Database describes it as:

Black Ash Nature Reserve has a similar environment to Barren Grounds Nature Reserve nearby. It is regarded as an extension to Barren Grounds and provides a more protected environment as access is restricted. The restriction is probably because very few people would be aware of its location. I waymarked the fire station & then went for a walk up the road to see where it lead, passing the reserve.
