"In 1993 the current “sonic” eagle was introduced as the new corporate logo to capture the ethos of a modern era which continues today. Prior to the Postal Reorganization Act in 1970, the postal seal actually featured a horse and rider – a carryover from the earliest days of mail delivery by horse. Prior to 1837, the postal seal featured Mercury, the Roman messenger of the gods."
