I recovered this U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey benchmark from 1940 in good condition. The disk is monumented on top of a square concrete post projecting about 12 inches above the ground. There is a metal witness post near this station to aid in recovery. Oddly, there was another large piece of concrete post laying next to this BM. It is probably from another benchmark that was destroyed in the area and relocated here. This BM is also listed on a topography map as 'BM 4317'. The NGS datasheet description adequate with the exception that the concrete culvert mentioned is now gone. My more accurate coordinates should place you very close to this mark.
NGS datasheet info:
01/01/1940 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1940 23.7 MI NW FROM CANBY. 23.7 MILES NORTHWEST ALONG THE CANBY-KLAMATH FALLS HIGHWAY FROM THE JUNCTION WITH U.S. HIGHWAY 299 AT CANBY, MODOC COUNTY, 66 FEET NORTHWEST OF CONCRETE CULVERT 1263+00, 48 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE HIGHWAY, AND AT A WHITE WOODEN WITNESS POST. A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED R 602 1940 AND SET IN THE TOP OF A CONCRETE POST.
