MW0235 - USC&GS 'M 602' BM - Modoc County, CA - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

I recovered this U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey benchmark from 1940 in good condition. The disk is monumented on top of a square concrete post projecting about 12 inches above the ground. The original wooden witness post was found lying on the ground next to this station. This BM is also listed on a topography map as 'BM 4159'. The NGS datasheet description is obsolete. All site references are gone. The NGS coordinates are way off. My posted coordinates should place you very close to this mark.

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1954 0.4 MI W FROM PEREZ. 0.3 MILE SOUTHWEST ALONG A GRAVEL ROAD FROM THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY RAILROAD WATER TANK AT PEREZ, THENCE 0.1 MILE NORTHWEST ALONG STATE HIGHWAY 139, ABOUT 0.25 MILE WEST ALONG AN OLD ROAD FROM THE WATER TANK, 259 FEET EAST OF THE CENTER OF THE T JUNCTION OF A TRACK ROAD LEADING TO THE SITE OF THE OLD SCHOOL, 206 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE HIGHWAY, 16 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE TRACK ROAD, 3.2 FEET NORTHWEST OF A WITNESS POST, ABOUT LEVEL WITH THE HIGHWAY, AND SET IN THE TOP OF A CONCRETE POST PROJECTING 1.0 FOOT ABOVE THE GROUND.
