I recovered the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey triangulation station from 1948 in good condition. The station is located on the eastern edge of a rocky outcrop on a small cliff. A nearby metal witness post aids in station recovery. I attempted a search for the Azimuth Mark but wasn't able to recover it. I'm assuming it is buried under dirt and possibly covered by rock from a road expansion project in 1990. I also wasn't able to recover Reference Mark 2. This station mark is also located on a topography map as 'CABALLO'.

The posted NGS coordinates and datasheet description are acceptable for station recovery.

NGS datasheet info for station mark:

01/01/1948 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1948 (WRH) THE STATION IS ON A SMALL ROCKY KNOLL ALONG CALIFORNIA STATE HIGHWAY 139, ABOUT 1/2 MILE SOUTH OF AND INSIDE THE MODOC NATIONAL FOREST BOUNDARY AND ABOUT 12 MILES SOUTH OF THE TOWN OF TULELAKE. THE STATION MARK, STAMPED CABALLO 1948, IS A STANDARD STATION MARK DISK THAT IS SET IN A DRILL HOLE IN OUTCROPPING BEDROCK THAT IS FLUSH WITH THE SURROUNDING SURFACE. IT IS ABOUT 75 YARDS WEST OF THE HIGHWAY, ON THE EAST EDGE OF THE SHARP DROP OFF OF THE RIMROCK.

THE STATION CAN BE REACHED FROM THE INTERSECTION OF THE MAIN STREET OF THE TOWN OF TULELAKE AND CALIFORNIA STATE HIGHWAY 139 BY GOING SOUTH ON THE HIGHWAY FOR 12.4 MILES TO A SMALL KNOLL AND THE STATION ON THE RIGHT.
