I recovered this California Department of Transportation metal rod from 2004 in good condition. It is a metal rod inside a metal sleeve and under a metal cover. The posted NGS coordinates and datasheet description are adequate for station recovery.

THE STATION IS LOCATED ADJACENT TO HIGHWAY 139 IN MODOC COUNTY AT
POSTMILE 43.40 ABOUT 2 KM SOUTHEAST OF NEWELL, 16 KM SOUTH SOUTHEAST OF MALIN OREGON, AND 48 KM EAST SOUTHEAST OF DORRIS. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE INTERSECTION OF HIGHWAY 161 AND HIGHWAY 139 IN TULELAKE GO SOUTHERLY ON HIGHWAY 139 6.44 KM TO EAST WEST ROAD IN TULELAKE ON THE RIGHT. CONTINUE SOUTHERLY ON HIGHWAY 139 6.42 KM TO A SIGNALIZED RAILROAD CROSSING. CONTINUE SOUTHERLY ON HIGHWAY 139 5.74 KM TO PETROGLYPH SECTION ROAD ON THE RIGHT. CONTINUE SOUTHERLY ON HIGHWAY 139 1.24 KM TO THE STATION ON THE RIGHT. THE STATION IS A STAINLESS STEEL ROD ENCASED IN PVC PIPE WITH ACCESS COVER SET IN CONCRETE FLUSH WITH THE GROUND, 25.1 M SOUTHWEST OF THE YELLOW STRIPE OF HIGHWAY 139, 6.9 M WEST SOUTHWEST OF AN ANCHOR POLE, 8.8 M NORTHEAST OF THE EASTERLY TRACK OF THE RAILROAD, 1.9 M SOUTH OF A GUY ANCHOR, AND 0.8 M NORTH OF AN ORANGE CARSONITE WITNESS POST.

THIS STATION WAS OCCUPIED AS A PART OF THE CALTRANS NORTH REGION HEIGHT MODERNIZATION PROJECT.
