I recovered the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey triangulation station in good condition. The NGS datasheet description is somewhat obsolete. The Japanese concentration camp only comprises a few preserved buildings and there is no longer any Staley sign. Only one of the two sheds mentioned survives. The cross of the two Indian soldiers from the Modoc War still stands. I also believe B.M. Z603 described in the datasheet (and which I'm assuming served as the Azimuth Mark to this series) could not be found and I'm pretty certain has been destroyed with a nearby irrigation canal that passes through the location of where it should be. This triangulation station is also listed (incorrectly) as 'Stanely' on a topography map. There is a metal witness post spray-painted orange next to the station to aid in recovery. The posted NGS coordinates are acceptable for station recovery.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1948 (WRH) THE STATION IS LOCATED ON A SLIGHT RISE ON THE SOUTHWEST SIDE OF STATE HIGHWAY 139, ABOUT 8 MILES, AIRLINE, 8.2 MILES, BY ROAD, SOUTHEAST OF TULELAKE, 200 YARDS WEST OF THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF OLD JAP CONCENTRATION CAMP, 150 YARDS WEST OF MONUMENT TO TWO UNKNOWN SOLDIERS OF INDIAN WAR DAYS AND 150 YARDS WEST OF THE RAILWAY STATION SIGN STALEY. IT IS 96 FEET SOUTH OF THE EAST ONE OF 2 SHEDS AND 36 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE RAILROAD SWITCH AND LIGHT. THE STATION MARK, STAMPED STALEY 1948, IS A STANDARD DISK AS DESCRIBED. IT PROJECTS 2 INCHES.

THE STATION IS REACHED AS FOLLOWS--FROM THE CAUTION LIGHT ON STATE HIGHWAY 139 AT TULELAKE, GO SOUTHEAST ON STATE HIGHWAY 139 FOR 8.2 MILES. TURN RIGHT AT SIGN PETROGLYPH POINT-LAVA BEDS AND CROSS RAILROAD, GO 100 YARDS, TURN RIGHT AND GO 0.2 MILES TO RAILROAD CROSSING AND THE STATION 90 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE CROSSING.
