I was recovering a nearby survey mark and noticed this concrete culvert had a date of '1930' on it. The date is stamped in the SE wingwall of the culvert. The culvert is part of an irrigation canal that crosses under railroad tracks. The culvert is in great condition for being almost 90 years old.

The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) from Camp Tulelake built many concrete culverts and siphons in this area during the late 1930s and early 1940s but this date precludes the CCC involvement so my best guess is that this culvert and some others I noticed along this stretch of Highway 139 was erected by the California Department of Transportation or possibly the Oregon and California Railroad.
Year built or dedicated as indicated on the structure or plaque: 1930
